Words and Definitions
t

  tag
Any identifying mark or label.  In HTML, the language in which websites are written, the markings used identify what's to be done with the text in a document.  Tags describe the structure of the text as well as its relationship to other documents.

An example of a tag used to describe how text is to be displayed is the blod tag. In HTML to make the sentence: "This sentence is bold" actually display as bold you would add the following html tags like this: <b>This sentence is bold</b>

A common way of using a tag to describe the relationship of one piece of text to another or one document to another is the hyperlink.  We ue hyperlinks all the time in browsing the web.  This is what we click to move around from one place to another on the Internet and is, in fact, one of the features of html that have made the web such an entertaining and useful tool.

targeted traffic

What all people seeking communication and business from the Internet are looking for is targeted traffic.  Offline, away from the virtual world, into the world of brick and mortar reality this is also what people are seeking.  If you place a ad looking for 18 year old shoe buyers to visit your site and this is what you get as a result of that advertisement then you have received targeted traffic.

An example of non-targeted, incorrect traffic is a friend of mine who wanted to advertise his anti-aging product on the web.  He hired a company to place banner ads.  Unfortunately, they placed his ads on websites and chat areas popular with teenagers and young adults.  These are not people who are normally the least bit interested in anti-aging products.  He went through over $5,000 in cilck-throughs from these banners before the company decided they were not getting him the correctly targeted traffic.
