| directory | |||
| In terms of search engine optimization and Internet advertising a directory is a collection of websites separated into categories based on site content. There are huge directories that collect and index information on every type of website such as the Google directory, Yahoo and and DMOZ. There are also other smaller general directories. You can also find directories dedicated to a specific area of interest such as local directories which collect, categorize and list web site that pertain to a specific geographic area or subject directories that do the same for websites containing information on a single area of interest such as a medical website directory or legal directory. | |||

| directory submissions | |||
| Going to the submission page in the correct category of a directory and giving them information about your website is called (oddly enough) a directory submission. Most quality directories require the submission to be done by hand. | |||

| DMOZ | |||
| Also called the Open Directory Project or ODP. DMOZ is one of the oldest and most comprehensive human-edited directories on the Internet. Very few people actually use DMOZ for search. It's value lies in the positive effect it can have on search engine rankings and in the fact that other, bigger search engines, like Google downloads and uses DMOZ's data. | |||

| domain | |||
| According to the American Heritage Dictionary a domain is: (n) A territory over which rule or control is exercised. This hold true on the Internet. Sometimes people use domain, domain name, website and website address almost interchangeably. This is because the language of the internet is yet so young. When you register a name for your website that becomes your domain name. The website you create or have created over which you exercise control is your domain. A password and username (and know-how) are usually all you need to exercise that control. An example of a domain is this website and the name of this domain is InternetAdvertisingDictionary.com. | |||
