| A crawler is a computer software program that goes through the world wide web following links and gathering information about web sites in an automated and logical manner. This information is later run through an indexing program and put in a database to be made available to visitors when they request information from a search engine. A crawler is also known as a web crawler, spider, web bot, web robot or less frequently a worm. Since following links is such an important part of how a crawler goes through and collects web sites for the indexing program it's important to not have broken links on your web site and to have as many links going to your site from other legitimate web sites. | |||
