  bounce rate
The speed with which a web site visitor will "bounce" away from a site after spending a short amount of time and viewing only one page.  The bounce rate is used to determine the effectiveness of an entry page or landing page.  If many visitors go to a web site and leave quickly after just viewing one page than that page would be said to have a high bounce rate and could be considered as ineffective.  If, on the other hand, a visitor spends some time on that page and then goes on and views other pages of the web site then the entry or landing page would be said to have a low bounce rate and would be considered to be effective.
