  blog
The word blog is a contraction of the word weblog.  A blog is a type of website usually dedicated to a specific subject and maintained by an individual who makes regular entries in a journalistic style. Blogs provide commentary or news as well as other information such as video presentations.  Typically the entries in a blog are displayed in reverse chronological order.  An important feature in most blogs which separate them from more static websites is the ability for visitors to leave comments.  This creates an interesting interactive aspect to the blog.  Blogs will often also contain links to other blogs and websites.

More than one hundred million blogs are being updated weekly on the Internet.  Subjects include everything from aardvarks to zoology and are written by people of all social, educational and economic levels.  This fact has led one Internet user to comment, "Never before has so much been written by so many and read by so few."

Two definitions pertain directly to Internet marketing.

1. A body can be defined as the main or central part of something such as an advertisement, an article, a brochure or a web page.  In this sense the body is distinct from such things as the title, index, links and copyright or author information.

2. In HTML (the language of web design) a page is divided into two sections; the "head" and the "body".  In optimizing your web pages for the search engines it's important to know that the Meta Tags (Title Tag, Description Tag, Keyword Tag) belong in the "head" section. Except in special circumstances, the body section contains the rest of the html code including instructions for how the page is laid out and the on-site and off-site hyperlinks.
